Day 3 Our Safari Begins

September 18 Lake Nakuru - Great Rift Valley - Lake Naivasha We left at 7:30 for a full day game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park complete with a picnic lunch. The animals were amazing —My only regret was that I didn’t have a bigger camera for the distance shots. Even so with a pop top vehicle we were able to stand up and get some great pictures. There were 8 people in our group. With two vehicles, we had wonderful views of Impalas, Giraffes, Cape Buffaloes, Baboon, Water Bucks, Wart Hogs, Guinea Fouls, Giant White Pelicans, Hippos, Rhinoceroses, Lions, Fish Eagles. Along the way we stopped for shopping, but were disappointed in the very high prices. On the way back, one of the vehicles (not in our group) got stuck in a water filled rut. Our two guides came to the rescue and towed them out—Applause and cheers all around. We were back arrived back at the lodge by 4:30 very tired and very dusty. It was a wonderful day.

Day 12 On the road again— AKA Safari

 Sept 26th Night Safari and Sept 27th 5am Safari—One more Safari to go. We were able to get out of the Land Cruiser and walk around the Cheetahs. They didn’t seem to mind. Scary and amazing. We saw more hippos. Chobes, a Greater Cudo, a Tigress, a Banana Billed Hornbill. Greater Kudu Every turn of the horn indicates 2 years of age This Lioness says hi She posed tor us for a long time I love the reflections of the Impalas in their drinking hole Can’t get enough of the Cheetahs The Cheetah even took a picture with us outside the Land Cruiser. We stopped and had beef Jerkey and Wine, a lovely pairing, and the Hippos headed our way. Headed back to the lodge our guides lit up the scenery Sept 27th We started out at 5am 😱 This beauty made it well worth the early wake up call. All Packed and Ready to roll

  I’ve done well. My big bag weighs 32 lbs—50 being the max. Since temps will range from 55º to 90º, It wasn’t easy.  Our flight will start at HIA at 3:30 pm and go to Heathrow in London. We’ll have a long layover there, and get to Nairobi on the 15th. There is -7 hours difference.   On the 16th we will have a much needed day of leisure. Don’t expect anything until the 16th or 17th. Day 2 Animals Galore

  Day 2 Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort   Left at 8 am for a 2hr drive to Lake Naivasha. Saw baboons along the way, but they were to quick to snap a pic. When we got to the the resort, an animal reserve, we took a boat ride on the lake and saw Hippos, waterbucks, and all kinds of birds. The Lodge is beautiful and served us a great lunch after the boat ride. After lunch we got up close to the animals just before the rain started falling. Later the rain stopped and waterbuck and zebras gave us a treat by coming right outside our front door and back balcony of our cottage. After dinner we finally saw Giraffes!
